System Support by John F King was originally shortlisted for the BBC's Spin competition for 10 minute plays on the theme of old industries being replaced by new ones across the North of England. When it wasn't picked up by the BBC, Soundstagenorth producer Guy Morgan thought it was too good to waste and John expanded it to twenty minutes. People may already have heard a script-in-hand version at West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Recording and production was finished in August 2004.
The cast was supplied by York Settlement Players. Guy says:
“Working with Settlement members is a pleasure because they're talented, enthusiastic and willing to try new things -- they're also very good at performing scripts they haven't seen until they get into the studio.
Please note, although System Support is set in a call centre in York, it’s not intended to bear any resemblance to ones in the real world.
